A Visit from the Mad Hatter

I've had suspicions something odd was going on around our home lately.

Unusual things were happening.
Nothing extremely alarming, just odd occurances,
Tea Cups going missing, then showing up in unusual places,
Hats, Feathers, Needles & Thread vanishing in the night,
and there were even a couple of windows who "lost" their curtains during the night.

But the most peculiar of all was this......

........A couple days ago I found Felicity's piggies (Pinkie and Sophie), all dolled up, with a tea cup sitting next to them, as if they had been to a fancy tea party during the night.

Well, You will never guess what, or "WHO" was behind all this;
It was the Mad Hatter himself.

It sounds crazy, I know, but if you open your mind & let your imagination run free anything can happen and nothing is impossible at all!

The Hatter revealed himself this morning.
Felicity was getting out of bed when this cute little character jumped out of the closet and exclaimed, "It's Time for Tea!  It's Time for Tea!"

Felicity is always up for a tea party so she quickly threw on her finest Tea Time attire and at the insistence of the Mad Hatter, I dug out one of her finest hats.  We soon discovered what the Mad Hatter had been hard at work on.....

He told us how during the night he had been preparing for their special tea party.

He had been decorating and baking for hours!
(he left a terrible mess in the kitchen)

and last night, the Hatter and Siohra the Cat, even shared some Tea!

Oh, and on the night he arrived he had a little tea party with the piggies as well!

Felicity was so excited when she saw what the Hatter had created for her;
She quickly crawled into the little hideaway....
Her eyes opened wide as she marveled at everything she saw.  Her first words were "Oh Wow!"
The Mad Hatter was delighted that she was happy!

...Once he pointed out the goodies, she wasted no time diving in.

Who says you can't have Dessert for Breakfast?

Although Felicity was delighted to be partying with the Mad Hatter, we were curious why he had decided to travel so far to have Tea with her?????

He told us that word of her love for hosting Tea Parties and her collection of fine hats had spread all the way to Wonderland!

The Cheshire Cat had passed on to him some story about all the fun the children had at her recent Valentine's Day Brunch.

Then he was told about her fancy Easter Tea Party

The Hatter said he had every intention of making a surprise appearance at her Second Birthday Party...
....but he and the March Hare were having their own little party that morning and
he simply lost track of the time...
 He blamed the Hare.

Felicity told him all about her parties and then the Hatter told her a few stories of his own.

The Hatter reminisced of his now famous tea party with Alice back in 1865.  He said she was simply dreadful!  She had no sense of humor and didn't understand the value of good riddles.  He enjoyed Felicity's company far more.

Felicity listened as the Mad Hatter jabbered on, often talking in silly rhymes and riddles that she found quite amusing.

Suddenly, in the middle of a tale the Mad Hatter jumped up, quickly rambled something about how it was time for him to leave and away he went.  Felicity tried to chase after him but he was gone in an instant.

All the excitement of the morning left Felicity exhausted, so we cleared out her newly built hideaway the Hatter had left behind for her and she curled up for a nap!

I am sure she had dreams of Wonderland!

From what I hear, the Mad Hatter has been up to all kinds of shenanigans lately.  If you wish to travel through the rabbit hole and see what he has been up to Click Here to visit A Fanciful Twist.

4 Ingredient Baked Dutch Babies

My Nanny used to make me the most wonderful thing for breakfast, called "Dutch Babies".

I've never seen anyone else cook them, although I have found online that the recipe is well known and that some people refer to them as "German Pancakes".
Now as an adult this is still one of my favorite things to eat (because it's yummy)....
and one of my favorite things to cook (because it's super simple).

I love that my Nanny wrote this recipe out for me because everytime I make these I get to pull the card out of my recipe box and lay it out on the counter while I'm cooking and it's like she's there with me in the kitchen!

- Put 1/3 Cup of butter into your baking dish and stick in the oven at 450 degrees to melt while your mix the other ingredients.

Beat 5 Eggs for one minute.

Then add 1 Cup of Milk and 1 Cup of Flour (I always use wholegrain) and mix that in well.

*The recipe doesn't call for it, but if I think about it I usually add a bit of Vanilla Extract too.

Pour this in the pan on top of your melted butter and bake for 20 Minutes.

The fun part as a kid was always watching it bake.....

Here's what it looks like after 5 minutes:

and here it is after about 15 minutes:

When you take it out of the oven it usually shrinks down a bit as it cools.

Serve it with a bit of syrup and powdered sugar and it's absolutely delicious!

Jazz Up a Plain Shirt with Fabric Yoyos!

I have an obsession with pretty fabric.  I will hold onto the tiniest little scraps of beautiful fabric forever, knowing eventually I will find a use for them.

This week I found a use for some them; I stitched them into yoyos and used them to turn a cheap Wal Mart tank top into an adorable little top for Felicity.

I really enjoy making yoyos, it's so much fun to pull out a bit of thread and needle and sitch them up while watching a movie with my husband in the evening.

If you don't know how to make yoyos, then Click Here to go to a wonderful tutorial I found.  They are super easy to make, even for someone with no sewing skills.

For her shirt I took my yoyos that were already made and then stitched them down the side of her shirt and also stitched on a few lace strips underneath the bottom two.
I added some buttons and rhinestones as well for some sparkle (which Felicity loves).

We went out into the field and took pictures of her in her new shirt sitting in the chair I refinished last week
I have a bunch of fabric scraps left that I plan to use over the next couple of weeks to decorate up some other shirts for her and maybe myself as well.

Also, the tutu, lace leggings and feather hair fascinator she's wearing these pictures are from my line, "Inspired By Felicity" and are available on my website: www.InspiredByFelicity.com

Rocking Chair Makeover { Dry Brush Painting }

I've been playing around with paint and fabric this week; Having lots of fun!

Yesterday Felicity and I decided to redo this old chair.

We sanded and sanded and sanded some more.  This chair had what seemed like an inch thick of glossy lacquer finish on it.

After sanding and cleaning we "dry brushed" on some white paint that I had leftover from the kitchen cabinets.

I just put a tiny amount of paint on the tip of the paint brush (usually by just tapping the brush on the lid) then gently and quickly swept the brush back and forth across the wood until I had the amount of paint I wanted.

We also recovered the seat in this gorgeous toned down turquoise fabric from Hobby Lobby.

I'm pretty happy with how it turned out.  Now I just have to find a place for it!

UPDATE: Decided the chair needed a little something else, so right after posting this I went back and added some black Valspar glaze to the lines of the flower.... it brings it out much better now:

Also wanted to let you know I am still running my special where you can receive 20% OFF plus a FREE Hair Bow with coupon code "welcome2012" at my online store: www.InspiredByFelicity.com

Oh, and before I go I must share a picture of Felicity all decked out in her red, white and blue for Independence Day.

She wasn't sure what to think about the parade, she didn't really start to get into it until the very end.
